Excellent heart surgery: two years for the San Giovanni Rotondo cardiac surgery department
Two years of hard work, continuous progress and great satisfaction: the minimally invasive and trans-catheter Cardiac Surgery Department of the Casa Sollievo della Sofferenza Hospital in San Giovanni Rotondo (FG) celebrated its second anniversary, still under the direction of Prof. Mauro Cassese. This is a unique institution in Southern Italy, characterized by full synergy between management and operational staff, and equipped with the best technologies to support an excellent team. Since its inception, it has had all the credentials to rapidly become a point of reference in this delicate field, and it has not disappointed expectations: Mauro Cassese and his staff now represent the best in Italian cardiac surgery, placing the Pugliese hospital at the apex of the great European avant-garde centers. The hybrid operating room, whose functions have proved decisive for reducing both stress and operation risks in patients whose clinical picture is almost always very complex, is one of the "secrets of success" of the team. They are able to perform interventions ranging from valve repair or replacement using minimally invasive procedures, to TAVI (trans-catheter aortic valve implantation), while still dealing with the most urgent cases, where timing and the synergy between different skills can literally make the difference between life and death for the patient. The team will continue to move ahead towards new, important goals.
